This stunning bookcase secretaire catches the eye with ease. Its gorgeous, well patinated, flame mahogany possesses tremendous charm. It has a scroll pediment with carved drapery above a pair of glass inset doors with arched astragals flanked by ring turned pilaster terminals. The upper and lower interior space have shelves. It stands above turned feet. The piece is truly a superb example of early 19th Century transition in Britain (and elsewhere) as Georgian simplicity began to give way to Victorian extravagance. As is often the case, the pictures simply do not do it justice.
Condition: This piece is in excellent condition. It has two working locks with a key. The glass is likely the original glass from 200 years ago. There are some minor compression cracks on the surface. There is a large, but stable, surface crack near the right pull. It looks to be quite old. There other minor dings, dents, and scratches as to be expected with any genuine antique furniture. I am happy to take additional pics, just ask.
