Circa 1675 - A very charming piece of history, this handsome chair likely originates from the Yorkshire region of England. It is raised on baluster turned legs joined by peripheral stretchers and has a plank seat with chip carving to the side. The arms are shaped and downswept. The chair back has a beautiful scrolled crest pediment with a foliate carved panel flanked by S-scroll 'ears'. The larger carved panel with a large lozenge with a symmetrical quatrefoil decoration and fluttering pennant-like terminals.
Condition: The chair is in very good condition, it is stable and can be sat upon. There is some old damage where the left arm attaches to back. There is also a chunk of the back right leg missing near the chair's seat. This is old damage and likely caused by a nail that driven in at some point long ago that caused a crack to form. Again, this damage looks to be quite old and shouldn't be an issue. The seat is likely an old replacement. There are other minor dents, dings, scratches, and surface issues as one would expect to find on a chair that's over 300 years old.
