Circa 1770 -This handsome tall boy is a classic late 18th Century delight with its molded cornice above three short and three long graduated drawers flanked by canted corners. The lower part comprising three long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet. These characteristics, along with warm, rich color, make this chest on chest a magnificent item that will make quite an impression to anyone and in any room. Curiously the original price, or a later price for a repair, can be seen written in pencil on one of the drawer bottoms--£6.6.0, which translates to 6 pounds, 6 shillings, and 0 pence.
Condition: This piece is in very good condition. There has been some restorative work done to the drawer cockbeading. The brass is modern. There are old fill holes that can be detected near the escutcheons on the drawers. There is some cosmetic work done to the feet. There are various separation gaps in the drawer bottoms due to age, but the drawers are sturdy and can hold weight just fine. There are other minor dings, dents, scratches, and cracks that one would expect to find on a genuine piece of this age.
